Last 24 Hours

Sept. 30th 7:15-Oct. 1st 7:15

The last 24 hours of my life is one that I will never forget. My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer about 2 weeks ago and has been admitted in the hospital since. While there, the doctors also found out that he has diabetes. I went to visit him on Sunday night and he was not doing to well. He didn't talk as much and didn't want to eat anything. He said he was in pain but there wasn't much medication the nurse could give him because he is diabetic. The doctor ordered the morphine be put through hi IV to help him be less tense. On Monday afternoon I went to visit him again and i noticed he wasn't responding to anything. He just laid there helpless as if no one was in the room. It seemed like he couldn't breath because I could see his stomach slightly pumping. I saw a thick yellowish discharge come out of his nose. The nurse inserted a tube down his nose and sucked the rest of it out. Traces of blood which filled the inside of his lungs also came out. He began to breath slower. I began to cry and slowly watched my grandfather die.

I learned that life is very precious. Everything you do when you're young reflects what happens in the future. If I take care of myself now then I will have a long, pain free life. I've learned not to make the same mistakes my grandfather made as far as staying health and fit.
